DIY Color Backdrop Product Photography

It seems that the genre of product photography is booming right now. I come across hiring ads for product and e-commerce photographers all the time. With e-commerce being such a big market, or at least where I live, there is a lot of need for product photographers. I learned the basics of photographing products many years ago, and it has come in handy several times.

In this video, Chris Pieta will show you a simple way to shoot and get that color pop that you see across all social media, the one that makes you stop to take a second look.

Adding color to your product photography will get you more clients and more money, so learning this technique could be beneficial to your business. Pieta goes through the steps of the best way to find the right color to use, such as a complementary color to the product or using a color wheel to find the perfect color for a great image that pops.

Having the right color backdrops is key and easier than changing the color in Photoshop. When changing the color in Photoshop, you will have to deal with the reflections on the products from the color backdrop, so it’s just easier to use the correct color backdrop.

Pieta goes through the basic setup, lighting, and photoshopping of the product shoot. If you have an interest in product photography, this video is a great starting point.
