Standing Tall

Madikwe National Park in South Africa is one of the best places in Africa to see a thriving herd of White Rhinoceros, (Black Rhinoceros as well). The small park on the border with Botswana has a fence with cameras and motion sensing that has been very effective at preventing poaching. We saw dozens of young and mature rhinos during our three day visit in June, 2023.

This little guy had just climbed up to the edge of the waterhole where he, another adolescent and and four other adults where having a drink. The evening light just after sunset was challenging, but beautiful. I took the image with a Canon EOS R6 with a Canon 200-400 F4L IS USM 1.4 EXT lens, f5.6, 1/250 sec, 506 mm, ISO 25,600, handheld.
