Survival on the island

Survival on the island, Kornat, Croatia
Kurnatari are the inhabitants of Murter, the oldest and largest settlement on the island of Murter, and the owners of almost all Kornati islands. The people of Murter came to Kornati in the 17th century, when they could not reach their properties due to the invasion of the Turks. In the middle of the 19th century, the Murterin family began to buy the Kornati islands, and in 1896 they became their sole owners. Due to overseas possessions, Murter heavyweights become sailors, fishermen and shipbuilders, turn to the sea, learn new skills and build houses by the sea coast. The Kornati as we know them today were created by the hard work of their owners, which is why they are considered a monument of human work, as well as coexistence with nature.
