Do you show off your client's logos on your webpage?

I asked this for years, nobody would answer and ignored it, only way I can get the answer is if hire a IP lawyer sadly... but hopefully someone here can answer it. But I heard 1 answer, was simply asking the client and you get permission, that was it... Do I need it in writing like a contract, ok to use logo for promotional use (public testimonials, etc.)? Cause if I use it without evidence for permission to use their logo that opens a can of worms from trademark infringement, correct?

I know most established fashion photogs uses them, but do they all ask for permission at all, or do they all get written consent?

I put my clients logos on my site. Not all of them, just a few of the bigger ones to add some credibility. I have also added a testimonial feature on my site that scrolls through a bunch of actual testimonials from clients. I will also be adding the testimonials to my studio rental page.

When I did this I spoke with my clients to let them know, but nobody ever objected. In fact they all seemed to encourage it. So I would simply suggest talking to your client and letting them know your intention. Make the logo a linked image so it helps their SEO, and they will generally be quite happy. :)

No contract is needed. I mean, your client is not going to sue you for using a logo on your page. And if they ever object to it, the standard practice is to issue a take down notice. So you would get a warning that gives you a change to react. You won't be blindsided by anything.

I had one I worked with (million dollar international company) told me they needed to pass it along to legal dept. Have you ever worked for a company of that size that needed to approve things like that with higher levels? I worked with a VP of marketing as my company contact.

Chris, yeah I have worked with companies that have quite a bit of red tape, and things need to be approved at all levels. Even then advertising the fact that I work with them has never been a problem.

I think a lot of companies see the value in collaboration these days and would in fact be more than happy to have you promote their product or service across social media or the web.

The ability to piggyback someone elses network is part of the appeal for some of these marketers. If you have a strong following and a good presence they will like that.

I think your case has got to be an oddball situation here. But thats just my own opinion. :)

in my case it was an engineering firm which needed to have my sign an NDA and bought the rights to the photos so the best i can do is say I worked such and such and request for to use the logo for testimonial/marketing purposes which could takes months or even years depending the company.
